A Dialogue with History
Ivana Gimenez
I am an architect, heritage pattern designer, and visual researcher with nearly twenty years of professional experience.
My work is rooted in a lifelong fascination with architecture, the decorative arts, historical ornament, and the cultural narratives embedded within objects, interiors, and the built environment.
Drawing from archival research, architectural history, and ornamental traditions from different cultures, I create decorative collections that translate visual heritage into contemporary designs for wallpapers, textiles, interiors, and decorative surfaces.
Architecture has profoundly shaped my design approach, bringing structure, precision, and a deep understanding of how ornament interacts with space. Combined with years of studying historical patterns and decorative traditions, this perspective allows me to create work that balances historical authenticity, aesthetic refinement, and contemporary relevance.
Whether developing original collections inspired by historical sources, reconstructing archival patterns, or creating bespoke designs for specific projects, every piece begins with careful research and a profound respect for the visual language of the past.
I believe ornament is far more than decoration. It is a visual language that carries history, craftsmanship, and cultural identity across generations. My work seeks to preserve that legacy while allowing it to evolve into timeless designs for contemporary interiors and products.
